WHO WE ARE     WHAT WE BELIEVE   WHY ATTEND

WHO WE ARE

Our Christian Day School. This nationally accredited school is staffed by highly qualified and competent teachers. It offers thorough instruction in religion and elementary subjects, Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8. Other programs such as music, art, and sports are also offered. The school is financed through tuition and congregational support

Our church is known as "Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church." The word "Immanuel,"  means "God with us." The word "Evangelical" is a word used by many Lutheran churches to emphasize that we are "people of the Gospel" and witness and mission minded. Though some churches use the word "evangelical" with other criteria in mind, the word as used by our church emphasizes that mission and ministry goes beyond our walls to all the world.

Lutherans follow in the tradition of the Reformation teachings of Martin Luther and other reformers. We do not follow the man but rather the Reformation truths that we are saved by "grace alone," by "faith alone," and that what we teach and believe are based on "Scripture alone." Luther's Small Catechism of Christian doctrine is used along with the Bible in teaching people about their faith.

We are one of more than 6,000 congregations of the Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod, sponsor of the "Lutheran Hour" on radio and various Lutheran television ministries. The word "synod" means "walking together" and it refers to a group of Lutheran churches who have banded together for work. Our Synod was founded in 1847 and does mission work and has partner churches in nearly 40 counties.

Pastors and teachers for our church body are trained in a system of more than a dozen colleges throughout North America. Immanuel congregation was founded in 1877 and our congregation numbers more than 750 Baptized members, of which more than 600 are "confirmed" or Communicant members.

"Train up a child in the way he should go, and when is he is old,  he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6

WHAT WE BELIEVE

We believe that the Bible is the true and inspired Word of God and the only source of divine truth concerning our relationship to God. Man by nature is a sinner and incapable of saving himself from his sins, death, or eternal damnation.

God through His Son, Jesus Christ, paid the price for man's sins in full on the cross, won the victory over death on Easter, and as the ascended Lord, today invites us through the "Gospel" (the "good news") in His Word to trust in Him fully for our salvation.

In our Baptism vows, as they are renewed again in our confirmation, we declare that we are renouncing the devil and all his works of unbelief, confessing before men our faith in the Triune God, and through our church membership and involvement, living for Jesus Christ.

As we worship, as we witness to others, as we serve in the Church--no matter how often we may falter in these sacred tasks assigned to us by the Savior, we seek to carry out His will among us. The words of the New Testament, and particularly the words of the epistles written by the disciples and other followers of Jesus, encourage us to be faithful until the Lord comes again at the end of time.

WHY ATTEND

This is a place where Jesus Christ is proclaimed as our Savior! That is the primary difference between our school and most others in Freeport.

We study God’s Word in the Bible. Each week in chapel, we worship together. Classes pray together many times each day. Children are brought up in a loving, Christian environment and they reflect that love in their attitudes and actions.

Our academic program is challenging. Our curriculum is thorough. Classes score well above national averages on standardized tests. Many children are presented with academic awards throughout the year. Graduates go on to excel in high school and college.

Extra curricular activities are important because they help the individual grow socially. We have scouting, sports, art, and music opportunities. Some children consider these activities to be the most crucial aspect of their education. We know that they are an important part of a well-rounded education.

Immanuel is a safe, structured environment. We have a fair discipline code that is consistently enforced by caring teachers.

Our campus is modern, clean, and attractive. It’s a welcoming place. Parents and grandparents often volunteer. Our computer lab, library, science lab, full-size gym, extended care wing, early childhood playground, and other resources are at your service.

Tour the website, and then call the school for an on-site tour. We have so much to offer. Our academics and our educational extras are impressive. Our Christian emphasis, though, is what makes us outstanding.

In Christ,

Advantages of Christian education

I would like to take this opportunity to remind our community of one of its many treasures! Immanuel Lutheran School continues to serve our area as an integral part of our children’s Christian and secular education.

Did you know that Lutheran Schools:
… meet or exceed state and national academic standards at all grade levels.
… help to develop a minimum of 30 developmental assets in children.
… lead a minimum of 3 percent of their students to professional church work.
… lead students to share Christ and their faith story in an unbelieving world.
… identify future leaders for our community.

Did you know Lutheran educators:
… model visionary leadership. They inspire a shared vision and model the way. They practice stewardship of resources, build up others and empathize with others.
… model servant leadership. Do those served grow as persons; do they while being served, become healthier, wiser, freer, more autonomous, more likely themselves to become servants? (Robert Greenleaf)
… model spiritual leadership. They study God’s Word, share their personal faith story, apply law and gospel appropriately, exhibit a passion for ministry, act courageously, equip God’s people for service, care for others, demonstrate integrity, and pray.

As a parent of two students at Immanuel Lutheran School for seven years I thank Him everyday for bringing this wonderful opportunity for our children. If you have ever wondered what a Christian education "is all about" I encourage you to call the school and make an appointment to come "feel" the difference! Don’t let this opportunity be missed.
