I hope you are looking forward to the next six weeks and the growth in God's Word which we will all be on.
I plan to post a video each week on Tuesday or Wednesday to supplement our study and be a guide for discussion in your groups.
Unfortunately, I am not able to get the video out before Thursday this week, so I am going to go ahead and post some questions and I plan to get the video up by tomorrow.
Read Deuteronomy 6:4-9
1.) What are the commands of this text?
2.) Think about the fist word and how also it became the title of this creedal statement (shema / hear). What is important about hearing and listening first both as it pertains to our relationship with God and also with others?
3) What is Love? Read 1 Corinthians 13. The author's definition of love is "unconditional regard for a person that prompts and shapes behaviors in order to help that person to become what God desires." In connection with 1 Corinthians 13, how does this definition plat out in our ability to love others. How does it play out in our ability to love ourselves...in other words, do we love ourselves enough to "become what God desires?"
4.) Would making the commitment of saying the 'Jesus Creed" help you in life?
5.) Talk about the rest of Deuteronomy 6:4-9 and discuss how in today's world we could accomplish what is commanded by God (ie. Teach these things to your children, talk about them, write them down in your house). Try to dig deep into effective ways in this day in age to actually do this. Finally, why would God command His people to do this?
